¿Por qué Lego?
Uso ladrillos Lego como medio porque disfruto ver la reacción de la gente ante una pieza de arte hecha de algo que les resulta familiar. Todos pueden conectarse, ¡porque es un juguete que todos tuvimos de chico! Quise elevar esta simple cosita de juego a un lugar que nunca tuvo antes. Y aprecio más que nada la limpieza que me representa, las líneas y los ángulos rectos. Es una cuestión de perspectiva: de cerca, la forma del ladrillo se resalta, pero de lejos, las líneas y ángulos se convierten en curvas. Y jugar de chico con Lego me permitía construír lo que quisiera construír. Si quería ser un rockstar, me hacía una guitarra. Si quería ser astronauta, me hacía un cohete. Fue perfecto para hacer arte, ¡y ahora encima me pagan!

Así, hice una exhibición de museo que cruzó Estados Unidos, y los chicos y grandes alucinan al ver algo todo hecho de Legos. Y hay un factor de nostalgia, seguro.
No solo creás objetos, también esculturas abstractas, retratos como si fueran en lienzo.
Al principio, me encontré a mí mismo haciendo piezas de representación, objetos que veía en mi departamento, por ejemplo, pero a una escala mucho más grande, como un lápiz de 3 metros o una manzana del tamaño de una pelota de basket. Después hice piezas mucho más abstractas, como mi escultura “Blue”, que es una figura humana en tamaño real que se está ensamblando a sí misma, o desmantelándose, depende. También, pude hacer retratos de personas, una idea que fue muy popular.
